With the recent global financial slowdown (GFS), commonly referred to as the Credit Crunch (CC), this has caused a knock on effect on eXceem The Free Community (ETFC).

Due to a marked drop in advertising income, and members sharing their eXceem eXtra accounts (as well as ignoring the donations page) funding for eXceem has plummeted in an exponitional mannor.

In the past when eXceem has sold ad-on services, it has been done in such a way its been adding value (AV) to members accounts, rather than restricting access to such features/services and forcing members to pay.

This approach has failed.

Therefore a new approach has been concieved, with a much extended range of services and feature upgradings (ROSAFU). These have been simply called "eXceem Services" (ES)

If I get round to it there will be a couple of new sections tonight!

Due to the server company eXceem uses reloacting its operations to different data centres, eXceem's server is being physically re-located. The new data centre has better network links (though in reality it wont make any different to you and me when we are browsing eXceem) as well as a much more energy efficent setup.

This will take place between 2am - 4am CDT, which if I have worked it out correctly will be between 7am - 9am UK time. I expect once the server is handed back to me I will need to spend 30 mins max updating new settings (mainly IP addresses)

However, since the IP will be changing this means that the new IP's will need to propengate over the many DNS servers ISP's use, which could mean a delay for some people in being able to access eXceem, the most this will be is 48 hours, however I transfered a domain over yesterday as a test and for me and a few others on different ISP's it took less than 10 mins, so fingers crossed that will be the case.

In the worst case situation and someone drops the server and breaks something etc I will post updates to eXceems twitter feed - Twitter / eXceem - to keep people updated. All data gets backed up hourly/daily/weekly to various facilities as well as me taking regular backups to my home pc so all posts are safe :)

On the plus side the server is geting a free ram upgrade to make up for the inconvience of the move, this will help the server cope with more people on it at the same time.
